Spring is in the air and it’s my favorite time of the year because that’s when all of the personal cooling gadgets start flooding social media ads… and this week did not disappoint. After seeing several personal fans advertising online, I decided to try a few out and compare them against each other. I’ve also got a new “powdery” food vlog from Freakin’ 2, and more.

We all know Facebook is littered with ads, but as a product reviewer, I tend to stop and look at what they’re advertising. With the arrival of Spring, I recently noticed an influx of personal fans being advertised there, so I decided to buy 4 of them and test them out in a real-world scenario. Do they live up to the advertising hype? (Spoiler: Not all of them do!)

I’m a fan of KitchenAid, and their wire masher is currently marked down to about $10. I do like this kind of masher for things like mashed potatoes, and this model is dishwasher safe and stainless steel, meaning you’ll get years of use before you need to think about getting another one.

Freeze a Damp Cloth

Freeze a slightly damp washcloth and drape it on your neck with a fan blowing. It works because it combines evaporative and conductive cooling. It feels MUCH colder than a fan alone. The only downside is that it’s temporary and potentially messy or wet.

Use a Fan to Clear Heat at Night

At night, place a fan in a window blowing OUT to pull hot air out of the room. This removes trapped heat instead of recirculating it, and tends to make a bigger difference than people expect. The only downside is that it depends on outdoor temperature.
