I tested three hand-cranked gadgets that don’t need electricity… and the results were a bit surprising. One actually worked better than expected, one was kind of a mixed bag, and one left me wondering why it even exists in 2026. From grinding fresh coffee to cranking out butter, this one turned into a full arm workout along the way.

If you don’t go through beans quickly, store them in the freezer in an airtight container. It slows down staleness and preserves flavor much longer. Only take out what you need and grind immediately. Don’t let them thaw repeatedly or you’ll get moisture buildup. The advantage is that you’ll get better flavor over time. The only con is that there’s slightly more prep, and purists may scoff!
