New Video Alert: 1970s Popcorn Popper vs. Modern Retro Popper 🍿
Plus: A Shark Tank gadget squares off with lunch, flashback to cooling tech, and deals worth popping for.

I’ve got a mix of the retro and ridiculous for you this week. First up, I pitted a 1970s popcorn popper (still sealed in its original box!) against a modern retro-style model to see which one could deliver the better batch. Spoiler: only one of them tried to serve me a side of Teflon.
Plus, earlier this week I posted a review of FunBites, one of those Shark Tank gadgets that promises to make lunchtime more fun (and maybe even a little tidier). If you've ever wanted to cube a pancake or square off some Spam, you're not alone.
Also in this issue: a flashback to cooling gadgets I tested exactly four years ago, and a few Amazon deals that are actually worth a look.

1978 vs 2025 Popcorn Poppers!
🍿 Popcorn Popper Showdown!
Today I’m comparing two very different popcorn makers: one brand new and the other a sealed relic from the 1970s. Yes, unopened since bell bottoms were in style.
Here’s what popped up:
🧯 Teflon Trouble Test: The 1970s Regal Poly Pop may look charming, but when I wiped the base… black residue. Not dust. Definitely not appetizing. I made popcorn, but I wasn’t about to eat it.
📦 Unboxing Time Capsule: The Regal popper came in a box stapled shut since disco ruled the airwaves. Inside? Loose parts, dust, and a whiff of Studio 54.
🔥 Presto Popper in Action: The modern Presto Gourmet Oil Popper made tasty popcorn with barely any unpopped kernels. Bonus points for neat cord storage and flipping into its own bowl.
👃 Popcorn Smells Like... 1978?: The Regal popper emitted a smell I can only describe as “questionably vintage.” That paired with the Teflon residue made this one sketchy at best.
🧂 Snack Test: The Presto batch tasted great with a bit of salt, and definitely safe to eat. No mystery chemicals involved!
Click below to watch me test both poppers, compare the results, and decide which one deserves to stay on my shelf (and which one gets banished to popcorn purgatory).

Shark Tank’s FunBites
🔪 FunBites Food Cutter Test (Posted 2 Days Ago)
Two days ago I tried out a Shark Tank gadget called FunBites, a cutter that turns sandwiches, pancakes, and even Spam into bite-sized cubes for picky eaters and lunchbox fun.
Here’s how it sliced:
🥪 Sandwich Slice Test: Worked OK for turkey & Swiss, and the edges came out nicely sealed, though not all the cubes detached cleanly.
🥞 Pancake Pass: Not bad! Needed a bit of rocking but gave decent results.
🍉 Watermelon Win: Surprisingly one of the best outcomes: clean cuts, no sticking.
🥩 Spam Cubes: Weirdly satisfying. It handled Spam better than expected.
🧀 Cheese Struggle: Tried Colby Jack. Required full middle-aged bodyweight to cut. Final result? Nice cubes, sore arms.
Click below to see if this gadget cuts it, or if you’re better off sticking with a knife.

DEALS 🏷️
🪒Philips OneBlade 360: 20% Off

I’ve liked every version of the Philips OneBlade, and now their premium 360 model is 20% off. Normally hovering around $70, this deal drops it by about $15. Unlike the more basic OneBlade I reviewed years ago, this smart model connects to an app that gives you blade replacement reminders and personalized shaving tips. High-tech face fuzz control.
📷 Vantrue N4 Pro Dash Cam – 21% Off
If you’ve followed my dash cam tests, you know I’m a longtime Vantrue fan. Their N4 Pro, one of the newer models, is currently 21% off. I haven’t seen it at this price since January, so if you’ve been thinking about upgrading your dash cam, this might be the time to hit record.
🔊 Monster Bluetooth Speaker – 75% Off
I spotted this heavily discounted Bluetooth speaker with solid reviews. It usually goes for $160 (confirmed with Keepa), but right now it’s just $39.99. That’s 75% off for a higher-end unit at a mid-range price. If you’ve been holding off on a speaker upgrade, this is a monster of a deal.

As Seen on TV Cooling Gadgets (2021)
Four years ago today, I tested a trio of As Seen on TV cooling gadgets: the Arctic Air Pure Chill, Arctic Air Freedom, and Go Fan Cool Mist. While these aren't exactly taking up shelf space in stores anymore, you can still find them on Amazon, so the review might come in handy as the temps start climbing.
Take a trip back to the early 2020s and see how this cool little trifecta held up.
That’s it for now! Let me know if you’ve tried any of the products featured this week, or if you still have a working popcorn popper from the ‘70s (just maybe don’t eat from it). As always, thanks for watching, reading, and hanging out with me. See you soon!
Until next time,
James
